Dietbet Review

Name: Dietbet

Founder: Jamie Rosen

Type: Earn Money While Losing Weight. Similar to HealthyWage.

Short Review: DietBet is a great idea. They have helped thousands of people all around the world to lose weight. However, I don’t recommend DietBet for a money-making purpose. If you want to lose weight, it works well. But for earning money, I rather recommend this service.

What Is Dietbet?

DietBet is a service that helps you to earn money while achieving your weight loss goals. You set a bet and a clear goal how much weight you are going to lose in a specific time. If you win your challenge, you earn money. If you lose the challenge, you lose the money that you have bet.

Already more than 530,000 people all around the world have used DietBet. In total, they have lost +7,450,000 lbs and DietBet has paid them +$38 million in rewards. We can quickly calculate people have lost a bit over 14 lbs on average while using DietBet. Some of the members have lost even +100 lbs if they were much overweight.

DietBet operates in +90 countries. You need to be at least 18 years old to participate their challenges. DietBet is owned by a company called WayBetter and they have also a website that shares tips of a healthy lifestyle: Nutrition, exercises, success stories, etc.

Next, we’ll have a look why DietBet is so effective and how it works in practice.

Why Is DietBet So Effective?

Many famous universities including Harvard have conducted studies on weight loss. They have found a clear relationship between financial incentives and achievement of weight loss goals. That’s why HealthyWage, DietBet, Pact and other similar apps have used this information on creating optimal exercising/weight loss tools.

I have also realized in my own life that financial incentives have an impact on achieving goals. What kind of experiences do you have?

Another great reason is the social support. We are the average of 5 people that we mostly hang around, says Jim Rohn. Apps like DietBet give encouraging and motivating people around us. People who are involved with the same challenge usually want you to succeed.

It gives more motivation to share your progress with other people. If you don’t want to share your DietBet goal with anyone else, that’s also totally fine. They don’t require that you would make your goal public. However, DietBet offers great tools and a community so you can get social support from other people if you want.

How Does DietBet Work? – 5 Simple Steps

Let’s go through the process of using DietBet and how you can earn money on their app. It’s pretty simple.

1) Sign up

Naturally, you need to create an account before starting. It’s fast and takes only 30 seconds. Fill out your information and you’re in.

2) Choose your challenge and set a bet

There are different kind of challenges that you can choose on DietBet. We’ll have a closer look at them a bit further. At this stage, you’ll also place your bet. It will decide how much money you are going to earn when you win your challenge.

3) Weigh in

You will get your starting weight. You can do weighing from the comfort of your own home. You just need to take a picture of your scale and a picture from the mirror while weighing. If your bet is higher than $100, then you are required to send them a video as well.

Simple instructions on DietBet website.

This phase is easy and I haven’t found any people reporting of problems. Next, comes the fun part.

4) Lose weight!

Now have your starting weight and the weight loss goal with a deadline is clear in your mind. Hit the gym, go running, do aerobics, play tennis and do whatever you like. If you want, you can send a picture of your progress to DietBet community and get some encouragement from other members.

Then comes the final phase.

5) Weigh out

When you are going to meet your deadline you have 48 hours time to get your final weight. You can use your morning weight as well which is usually a bit lower. Just repeat the step 3 by taking a picture of your scale, etc.

Then the challenge is over and you can collect your money. Congratulate yourself for being in a better shape.

DietBet Challenges – You Choose the Money You Will Earn

You can naturally choose what kind of challenge and goal you want. They have 3 basic challenges that are:

  • Kickstarter

Lose 4% of your weight in 4 weeks. Members start the challenge at the same time and there are many challenges running simultaneously on DietBet. For example, the next Kickstarter challenge starts in 14th of August and ends in 10th of September.

The bet varies but for the next challenge, it’s $35. The average bet in Kickstarter challenges is $30.

  • Transformer

Transformer is a longer challenge that lasts for 6 months and you are going to lose even 10% of your weight. However, the details in all of these challenges may vary and I recommend reading them carefully before starting your next challenge.

The average bet on Transformer challenges is usually $25 per month or $125 paid up front.

  • Maintainer

In Maintainer challenge, your goal is to maintain your weight within +2% and -4% of your starting weight. You probably know the famous yo-yo weight. People first lose weight but after a while go back to their bad habits and start eating unhealthy. The purpose of Maintainer is to prevent you from bad habits again and still keep your new and a healthy lifestyle.

In the picture below, you can see a quick conclusion of 3 DietBet challenges.

is dietbet a scam

DietBet statistics are quite impressive. 96% of players lose weight in Kickstarter game and winners lose 24 lbs on average in Transformer challenge.

You can quickly see that it’s possible to make some extra income with DietBet. However, it won’t make you a living. If you are interested in making a living online, I recommend taking a look at this service.

DietBet Reviews – “Where Is My Money?”

In this section, I’ll show you DietBet complaints. Even though their app is great and thousands of people are loving it, there are also some aspects that people don’t like.

is dietbet a scam

Dan achieved his goals but earned only a little money.

Dan’s example shows that sometimes your earnings can be very small. If all people in the challenge achieve their goals, there isn’t much money to be shared.

is dietbet a scam

Zack shows a good point. Even though you beat the challenge, your rewards may be $0.

The one who always wins money is DietBet. They take a big fee from every challenge. If you don’t meet your goal, you lose your whole bet. If you reach your goal, you may earn something but it’s not guaranteed.

Conclusion – Is DietBet a Scam?

After reading other DietBet Reviews I need to admit that their marketing strategy is not very nice. Even though you reach your goals you may end up earning $0 because the company takes 25% of the pot.

DietBet has paid thousands of members and it’s not a scam but I prefer staying away from their service. HealthyWage has received much better reviews and is a superior compared to DietBet.

Get fit/weight loss apps won’t make you a living but they are a nice way to motivate you to exercise more. But if you are looking for great ways to make a living online, then you need to use something else.

Wealthy Affiliate taught me how to make a living online and nowadays I’m a full-time online marketer. If I can learn it, you can learn it as well. You’ll get 20 interactive video lessons for free when you join. I’ll send you a personal message inside a community and offer my 1-on-1 support. (No credit card required.)

There are many businesses that have a similar business model, most Daily Fantasy Sports sites offer exactly that type of ´the house always gets a cut´ and can never lose. It appears at least this site has a mechanism in place where you cannot actually hit your diet goals but lose some money, as they always pay back at least your bet.

The other thing I would be curious about is how many of the people who lost their bets actually failed to lose the correct amount of weight, or more likely just forgot to log back in during the final 2 days of the competition. If you bet $10 on a 6 month challenge, probably many people just will forget about it.

Overall, it is a neat idea to lose weight, but probably never intended to be a way to win serious money since first of all, it is too easy to cheat.

    • Roope Kiuttu September 3, 2017 at 11:21 am - Reply

      Hi Petesede,

Yeah, some people for sure have forgotten to log their progress after 6 months and lost their money as a result. It’s better to put a reminder. 😉

I think cheating isn’t a big issue in this kind of apps. 99% of people don’t even want to cheat the app. It would go against their own conscience so they don’t want to do it just to earn some hundreds of dollars.

Anyway, as I mentioned in a text, HealthyWage is a better app for this kind weight loss challenges. You can earn up to $10,000 per challenge. Of course, most people won’t earn so much but it’s possible.

I lost some weight last year and I didn’t make any money on it! I guess I’m a …loser haha! I think the pressure to win a bet can help some people with reaching their goal but it’s not a way of making money in the long run. On the plus side, the challenges look good and the goals are achievable.

Thank you so much for this Roope! this is an eye opener! I didn’t know that something like this could exist! But self-view issues are more complex and intractable than physical problems like weight loss.

And given the fact that self-view solutions are not an intentional, systematic component of the show, issues predictably arise in the form of a setback, but putting some bets into it might solve the problem!

    Great job!

      Hi Dyoshke,

yeah, the mental side is more important than the physical aspect. Your body reflects your way of thinking. It’s wise to use tools like DietBet to motivate oneself for reachings goals.

However, as I pointed out in the text DietBet isn’t as good as HealthyWage in my opinion.

If you’re going on a holiday, you must be eating crabs and fat rich there. But you need to realize that once the holiday is over, you got a lot of fat and toxins in your body, having a negative impact on your health as well as your appearance.

That’s why I eat a lot more vegetables than meat.

    • Roope Kiuttu August 19, 2017 at 6:02 am - Reply

      Hi Mark,

yeah, many times on holiday we eat more delicious food which may not be so healthy. Anyway, you can use DietBet and HealthyWage during your holiday or during the “normal time”.

    Nice review

Sites like DietBet.com are great because they provide a fun way to get started in fitness and eating better. The competition and risk of putting your money on the line makes it pretty emotionally engaging (which is a double combo).

If you find a good game to join ( the competition where you put your money on the line)… with your friends, then it can be fun. You can motivate each other, but more likely than not, you’ll poke fun and compete. very cool

    • Roope Kiuttu August 18, 2017 at 8:43 am - Reply

True. DietBet gives an additional boost for people who want to get fit and start a healthier lifestyle.

But it seems that their app is not as good as HealthyWage. As we saw on other DietBet reviews sometimes they don’t pay you almost any money even though you would have achieved your goal.

    Hi Roope!

I read this article and I find this site has a lot in common with Sweatcoins!

I because of that I have the same thoughts: It’s fine to use if it keeps you motivated to go out and do some exercise, avoid an inactive life and improve health, but, I’d not use it to earn money, besides here in the article can be seen that the earnings aren’t worth it. So same thoughts as with Sweatcoins! Fitness motivation!

    Thanks Roope, excellent article.

      Hi Wizkha,

true. StepBet and Sweatcoin don’t seem to be worth it but HealthyWage is a much better option in my opinion. By using that app you can earn a good money while losing your weight..

It seems that placing bets on one’s weight loss accomplishments is not a new thing. DietBet is one such site where one places bets on how much weight they will lose. Sometimes people can have a difficult time losing weight and will search for any means possible to help make it an easier process.

The aspect of social dieting can help dieters to feel that they are not alone in their journey to reach their weight loss goal because they can socialize with like-minded people whose focus is to lose unwanted weight. Motivation is a great factor when it comes to weight loss.

One has to want to lose the excess weight and with the support and help of such sites like DietBet, the pounds should come off in a more than timely fashion.

    • Roope Kiuttu August 17, 2017 at 8:52 am - Reply

You are right that motivation is a great factor when losing weight. Actually, it’s a great factor with any activity in the world.

It’s great that there are this kind of opportunities which help people to get more motivated. However, I think that HealthyWage is significantly superior and more reliable compared to DietBet.

As the name implies, DietBet is a social dieting site that allows users to place bets on their weight loss, and then win back their original bet (and then some) if they reach their goal within a set amount of time. Because of this, DietBet sums up its mission by helping you “Bet on yourself to lose weight. Reach the goal … split the pot!”

Admittedly, this is a new method of losing weight, so you understandably have a lot of questions. We also recognize that summer is just around the corner, and you want to get swimsuit ready as quickly (and as safely) as possible. But before we answer your important questions, let’s take a close look at how DietBet works.

    • Roope Kiuttu August 11, 2017 at 7:52 am - Reply

      Hi Charles,

yeah, it’s a classic thing to get fit for the summer ;). At the moment I am in Finland where the summer is soon coming to an end (here the summer is very short). But I’ll go to Austria where the summer still continues for a couple of months.

I enjoyed the idea of DietBet but they have several customer complaints that make me quite suspicious.

    Hi Roope!

Thanks for the article, I appreciate you make honest posts like this. I had the opportunity to join Healthy wage and I found it better too. I would be really mad if I join this site, win and end up not getting my money. 11 $ out of 170 $ is truly not much of a great prize. Getting some motivation to lose weight is good but I wouldn’t risk losing money over it.

    Thanks again!

    • Roope Kiuttu August 11, 2017 at 7:50 am - Reply

      Hi Pink Turtle,

yeah, I think that HealthyWage is a better service than DietBet. Rewards are bigger and customer reviews are much more positive than with DietBet. I am happy to hear that you have also joined HealthyWage.

Why it does look like a great bet (Lose weight and gain money!) I think there are many ways to either be scammed OR scam the website.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but with a bit of a photoshop knowledge, wouldn’t you be able to rig the pictures? Then again, that would take way too much effort for such a little gain.
In any case, if this was pulled off in a cleaner way, I’d love to give it a try!

    • Roope Kiuttu August 11, 2017 at 7:48 am - Reply

      Hi Cantarella,

maybe it is possible to cheat DietBet but is it really worth it?

99% of their users are still using DietBet because of the right intentions so I guess they aren’t too worried about that 1%.

Thank you so much for this review Roope! I had no idea there were websites specialized in this type of earning, I think it’s pretty original but the website shouldn’t be taking so much money, since it’s most an incentive for people to lose weight than from earning real money. My aunt started losing weight a year ago and she’ll probably be interested in the other website you mentioned, I’ll send it to her right away.

Sometimes there are legit websites like this one that simply aren’t good for making money online.

    Cheers!

      Hi Alexander,

you are right. DietBet is taking a huge share from the pot. That’s a wonderful business model for them because they have almost 0 risk but they make huge profits.

It would be interesting to hear what your aunt would say about HealthyWage. I’m sure she would like it.
