How to Motivate to Work
Do your work, This guy is watching!

Have you ever felt unmotivated to start your work and get it done? Have you ever thought how to motivate yourself to work? Don’t worry probably all of us feel it sometimes.

But the difference between the winners and the losers is how they react to that feeling. The losers will give the feeling win. The winners can change their feeling and after 5 minutes they will feel motivated to work again. How do they do it? I have a trick for you.

After reading this text you don’t need to wonder anymore how to motivate to work.

Analyze Yourself

When you feel the unwillingness to work what do you usually do?

Do you scroll Facebook’s news feed?
Do you play something TOTALLY USELESS with your phone?
Do you organize your papers?
Do you read blogs on the Internet?

Notice one thing: Usually, you are doing something. You are doing something that you shouldn’t.

You are doing something that seems useful but still it’s not the work that you should be doing.

Try my exercise!

About the Exercise

I want to mention that this exercise is highly effective if you do it well.

The point is that you don’t give yourself an alternative to doing something that would feel somehow useful. Don’t start to read the newspaper when you are doing the exercise. Don’t start to plan your weekend.

The idea is not to do anything.

You are giving yourself two alternatives:

1.Not doing anything

2.Working.

If you are a human being, homo sapiens, sooner or later you want to choose the alternative number 2, working.

How Do People Fail?

Some people fail because they give themselves more options. They give themselves the option number 3: do something useless that feels somehow useful.

STOP DOING IT NOW!

Sit down like this orangutan and don't do anything. After a while working seems so interesting.
Sit down like this orangutan and don’t do anything. After a little while working seems so interesting.

Try This!

Step 1 Set 5-minute timer and start

Step 2 Sit down on the floor

Step 3 Don’t to anything.

If you feel like taking your phone, don’t do it. Just sit. Do it for 5 minutes. I mean don’t do anything for 5 minutes. Just sit with your brain OFF-mode.

Let me repeat.

Don’t.
Do.
Anything.

Sooner or later you will feel so bored that working starts to feel very interesting option.

Before the exercise, you can put the 5-minute timer. Start working right away when you feel like it again. Most of the time you don’t want to sit there and wait for 5 minutes because it feels like a long time if you are not doing anything.

In my opinion, motivational techniques can be very useful if you are building your own online business and being your own boss.

  1. Yes, it’s always good to find time to relax . To keep the mind working in focus. When our mind is refresh we get to have better idea/thoughts. This sometimes apply to me when I’m writing , i don’t have the spontaneity of idea. But taking some time to do nothing, take me to the right focus. My motivation is to finish what i desire to do. I will keep in mind that the concept of “not doing anything” should not be abused because i might caught myself getting lazy. Good day!

  2. This is all true!!! for you to become motivated and productive. Always lend a time for your self to think. Every day turn of your phone, your computer, your laptop etc. Go in a quiet place and look at the nature don’t talk just look at it. You will surely realize that you are so bored enough so now you will find something interesting for you and that is the start for you to be productive.

  3. Haha, you’re explanation of in this article is quite funny but actually true. I would simply just call it taking a time off to rest the mind. The human mind is not a robot, it needs a time off every once in a while to help it perform effectively and efficiently whenever it’s called into action.

    1. Yeah. The idea of this method that was in the article is that you do nothing so you get motivation to work. Because often time we start doing something instead the most important thing which keeps us away from the important work.

      1. You are absolutely correct, it’s like getting spilled away like erosion when we try to distract ourselves a little all in the name of trying to rest from too much work. There is this particular friend of mine who have complained about such incident on more than one occasion to me. He would either get carried away with playing games or getting interactive with chatting on dating sites that he wouldn’t realize the amount of time he wasted doing irrelevant things and leaving a great part of his work not completed.

  4. Well, this is a great technique that you have discussed here Roope. Whenever I don’t have enough motivation to work, my focus gets shifted in another direction every time. I start doing something useless like watching random Youtube videos or scrolling through Facebook feeds. And then I find out that I’ve wasted almost three to four hours of my time. The trick is to stay away from those distractions and literally do nothing for five minutes until you can get yourself to focus on your work.

    1. Yeah, that’s a powerful strategy. Often we try to keep our minds busy by putting lots of distractions there. But the key to succeed is to just focus just one thing at a time.

  5. Sitting down for 5 minutes and not doing anything sounds almost impossible to me lol. But I’m sure it is an effective way to actually start and doing some work. For me, it’s weird but once I start something, I really don’t need much motivation if I have already started working on something. Once I start, you probably can’t stop which is probably weird to hear.

    1. Yeah, the exercise is a bit strange but it’s effective! 😉

Sounds good that you can keep on working once you have started. Many success coaches talk about a 1-minute rule or something similar. Start doing the task you need to do at least for one minute. If you still feel that you don’t want to do it, you can take a small break and do something else. However, most of the time you start getting the flow and get the work done like you said. Many times the hardest part is just to start. Once we have started, it just gets easier.

  6. Hi Roope
To be honest with you, this is something that I have never tried.

It always seems like the natural thing to do when you are demotivated, is to go ahead and do something that is “useless working” and occupying time.

I am certainly going to give this a go. I see how it works. Its simple and yet it makes so much sense..

Thanks for this, will let you know how it goes.
    All the best
    Roopesh

    1. Hi Roopesh,

Yes, often times we just tend to waste our time watching useless Youtube videos or something else, know the feeling? 😉

I hope that this exercise will help you to be motivated to work. I’m willing to hear how this works for you!

      I wish you success!
