What Is Udemy?
Like its closest competitor, EdX, Udemy is an online learning platform that caters to both the course creators and the students alike.
It is done when Bali created a live virtual classroom back in Turkey in 2007 and presented to his co-founders Biyani and Caglar when he moved to Silicon Valley in 2010.
The difference between the two learning hubs is that the latter doesn’t have any direct links with recognized international universities as EdX does.
That’s because Agarwal, who is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, makes it easier to build a relationship with the executives in his endeavors.
Unlike him, the 3 people involved in Udemy strove to search for investors to fund the project from 2010 when it was officially launched to the present.

How Does Udemy Work?
Let’s say you’re going to enroll for a business class particularly the basics of marketing. You go to Udemy landing page and register with your filled in information to get your confirmation link.
After the registration, you get access to the platform with tons of courses either in regular, paid, or free versions.
You hover through the list and choose the basics of marketing because that’s what you want to learn from the beginning (prior to the registration).
Once you get enrolled in the class, regardless if it’s paid or free, you get the same feel of the classroom as if you are indeed in a real or physical space.
The professor or the instructor talks to you via interactive videos and discusses to you the concepts as if he’s directly talking to you.
You get tons of resources from the subject alongside the downloadable materials as well as an online community to connect with fellow students and the instructor himself.
Since it’s also functional as mobile applications both for Android and Apple devices, the students can simply download the course material and go away wherever they want to while listening to the discussion on earphones. That’s because it becomes available offline after downloading the whole course.
How to Make Money with Udemy?
As I mentioned in other learning platforms, Udemy provides different ways to make money in different perspectives.
First, you can maximize the potential of the learning opportunity it provides to attract wealth by upgrading your high-income skills.

Summary of Udemy affiliate process & benefits of becoming one
Second, you can apply to become one of their affiliates and help Udemy promote their mission and vision to your target users and followers (on your social media accounts). That is in exchange for certain percentages of commissions from the generated sale.
Given, you may receive 20% from the share if the referred user opts for the paid version of the course. Otherwise, you will not receive anything as an affiliate.
From there, you need to strive harder ensuring your target readers will choose Udemy as the resource to learn and pay.
Udemy [UGLY] Truths Revealed!
1. Not Accredited
What do I mean by this?
Unlike EdX, courses uploaded on Udemy aren’t accredited for work or for a substitute in college subjects unlike the former.
They don’t have direct linkage with the top universities across the 7 continents unlike EdX with Harvard University and MIT as founding members.
2. Hassle For Course Creators
When I hovered through different comments about Udemy, I noticed one of the course creators suffered when one of the fellow course creators enrolled to his course and stole every single data in his lessons and updated his.
He called the attention of the staff about the complaint. But neither from the executives or the staff took action from what happened.
As a result, he chose to take down all his course content and thought of uploading to a platform that treats course creators like him equally and right.
3. No Refunds Guaranteed
Although it sounds horrible and opposing to the creators of Udemy, this is apparently true. Thankfully, I didn’t spend a lot of money for one of their courses and waited for discounted prices.
As for one anonymous student, he supported the claim by saying, “Be wary in the first few days of purchase as you can't be refunded after 30 days whether or not you were satisfied. My Program Management course experience was horrible. I don't recommend."
4. No Quality Control
This is true to most of the courses on the platform in comparison to EdX based on my personal experience with it.
You can’t assure that the videos uploaded are clear unless if it’s from big companies like Moz. If your course is uploaded by a small blogger or someone related, be cautious.

You can’t assure high-quality content and media for that. Not if the course creator dedicates herself to create a superb quality of lessons.
5. Unfixed Bugs
Oftentimes, those who are using their mobile devices to access the Udemy App and its content, they experience a lot of bugs.
According to a student named Skip from Georgia, the entire course was supposed to be fun and seamless. The instructor was great and the content he prepared was outstanding.
The problem boils down to Udemy’s side wherein they didn’t fix the bugs leading to inconvenience to most students like him.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) shows low rating for Udemy based on customer's satisfaction
6. Low BBB Rating
Setting aside its failure to gain the accreditation from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Udemy failed to satisfy its customers with a D- rating.
What I Like About Udemy?
1. Diverse Learning Opportunities
One of the reasons I loved about Udemy is that it provides learning opportunities to people like me, who love to learn new things. It doesn’t matter if they were academic-related or my field of expertise.
On top of that, the instructors upload videos of them discussing in front of the camera or have their voice recorded. In that way, it’s as if they were talking to me while they teach the concepts related to the subject matter.
2. Functional In All Devices
Udemy made sure to provide the live virtual classroom available not only on our personal computers and laptops but they also come in handy for the mobile devices. It works both for Android and Apple devices seamlessly as they do on PC and laptops.
3. Offers As Much As 90% Off To Courses
Udemy is known for its massive shut down price for its featured courses. From there the students who are in a tight budget can afford and buy a lot of them for learning purposes. Unlike EdX who doesn’t offer special price offers, this platform does.
Udemy Review - What Others Say?
Despite Udemy's promising platform for learning, there are a lot of complaints recorded in different forums versus EdX.
Within 9 in business, the BBB received at least 23 complaints in the last 3 years and only resolved 16 of them within 1 year.
Unlike its closest rival, Udemy only has 3 out of 5 customer ratings and got D- from the overall. It's a lot lower than A ratings of EdX. Hence, needless to say, that more students trusted its rival than Udemy per se.
This is proven with the splurge number of negative reviews on various forums. One of them is from an anonymous student, who raised a complaint on the BBB for its terrible customer service.

Consumer Affairs reports more 1 out 5 star rating for Udemy.
"Udemy has no directions on how blind users can take their courses and when I wrote their support department several times, I never heard anything back and have several open tickets in their system about this issue that they can look at," he wrote.
Another student complained about its inability to accept his card to pay 4 courses on the above-mentioned learning platform.
"Udemy had a sale for 90% off [courseware]. I purchased 4 courses. I attempted to purchase 5 more and their website declined the card. I contacted USAA to watch the transaction and USAA did not see the transaction come through to fail."
"I have purchased a few Udemy courses a month ago. Now I cannot find them on my account and via the link sent by Udemy to my email. Udemy is not responding to the [emails] I sent," another student wrote.

Udemy offers as much as 90% off from its featured courses. This photo shows today's discounted prices as per page's screenshot.
On the other hand, there aren't negative reviews existed but there are also students (including me) who found Udemy beneficial in our learning process.
Jory from Nebraska mentioned that the 3 courses she purchased (Modern Python Bootcamp and SQL Bootcamp by Colt Steele and Python for Data Science and Machine Learning by Jose Portilla) were incredibly detailed.
"These courses are worth a lot more than that for the amount of quality content and over 20 hours of video. I'm surprised these guys release their content this cheap every now and then," she wrote.
"I have had no problems at all with this company. What the company say and is very legit. I had problems at the beginning but was able to sort it by sending a fault through the website in the contact area. I have 4 products in my vault that I use," Richard from Australia, stated.

Some of the positive reviews from the students of Udemy
Personally, I have a bunch of courses both paid and free on Udemy and like these folks, I didn't have problems with using the platform. In fact, it's been a very pleasant experience for me than EdX.
Does Udemy Work? Scam Or Legit?
Based on my personal experiences and the rest of the students, I don’t think there’s something to doubt with the platform per se.
I could really attest its effectiveness, especially in learning the necessary skills we consider the high-income skill set for wealth.
Of course, there are pros and cons in every piece of technology. That doesn’t exclude Udemy at all. In comparison with its rival, EdX, I have a seamless experience with the former although they don’t give out a verified certification for completing the course.

If these companies trusted Udemy, how much more the students?
Determining whether Udemy works for us or not depends on what our goals are. If you are here to simply learn without the necessity of a certificate, Udemy can be a great option. Otherwise, you have to enroll in any of EdX courses and pay for verification issued by the school-in-charge.
Nonetheless, Udemy works and is a legitimate mass open online course company (MOOC). There’s no doubt about that.
#1 Online Business Opportunity
Since we’re talking about upgrading our high-income skill set in terms of searching for various learning opportunities, I would like to testify that by having a mastered skill that people couldn’t resist paying more is true.
That’s because I started as a newbie writer without any background in writing aside from the fact I graduated with a Secondary Education Major in the English language back in the college days. Yet, I have limited experience with various forms of writing.
After leaving my professional life to pursue my writing career, I began from $0 and up by building my high-income skills on my own.
I got a series of job offers from different online tabloids and other companies in need of writers. That’s because I focused and was sincere in improving my writing.

High-income skill set is today's trend as a means to attract wealth.
The same principle applies to an online business. If you want to succeed in the online industry, you need to master the necessary skills to open and run the business. Otherwise, you’ll end up in tragic failure.
To prevent that, I’d like to suggest Roope “Robert” Kiuttu’s step-by-step FREE training to prepare you to become an effective online marketer as he. In fact, he earned more or less $2,000 within 20 hours through this.

There’s no time to overthink and analyze, my friend. It’s now or never. Get it now or you will lose it.
Now that I shared my thoughts in my “Does Udemy Work?” post, it’s time to turn the table and ask about your experience, in general.
What kinds of experiences do you have with Udemy? Is it worth your time, money, and effort?
