What is Medifast?
Medifast Diet is a weight loss program developed by Medifast, Inc., a Maryland-based Multi-Level Marketing Company in 1980.
Its founder, William Vitale, a medical doctor, created this diet approach of low-fat and low-calorie diet under the name HealthRite (former name of Medifast).
Years after, the company changed its name to Vitamin Specialties Corp. and in 2001, it became its today’s Medifast.

A year after they changed the name, Retired Marine Col. Bradley T. MacDonald and Chairman of the Board Dr. Wayne Scott Andersen established Optavia, which was Take Shape For Life at the time. Hence, the latter became Medifast subsidiary company up to this date.
How Does Medifast Diet Work?
When it comes to the dieting fad, Medifast Diet has been one of the famous options given its establishment 39 years ago.
That means there’s not that different to their weight loss programs, given they’re all trying to sell their diet approaches and their products.
Most of them provide their promises of losing weight within a month in various numbers. Be it 4 to 5 pounds in 30 days. Be it more.
In fact, MedicineNet supports this claim by mentioning the inclusion of chocolate shakes, soups, pudding, cocoa, and cappuccino, including the appetite suppressor. According to the source, it promises the dieters to lose weight for around 2 to 5 pounds per week.
In comparison to Beyond Diet, they also encourage their dieters to undergo their “5+1 Plan,” which is equivalent to 6 small meal portions per day.
But that doesn’t mean you make your meals like the others I reviewed. You’re going to consume 5 meals provided by Medifast and another 1 meal you make for yourself.
According to the diet plan, it only allows 800 to 1,000 calorie restriction which is too tough to sustain in the long run.
On top of that, you’re going to consume mostly Medifast products than the meals you prepared for yourself as Nutrisystem implements.
How to Make Money with Medifast?
To make money with Medifast, you need to either purchase more of the products with a minimum cost of $149 or higher. The reward is worth at least 5% to 10% per recurring order.
Since it's the parent company of Optavia, they follow the Integrated Compensation Plan wherein they payout commissions per week, per month, including the Client Support Bonuses worth 15% and an additional 3%.
Team Growth Bonuses
For business coaches to earn more by assisting dieters to achieve their weight loss goals, they need to qualify to the requirements set to a specified rank, which is shown in the screenshot below.
With that being said, the coach should at least maintain the required 6,000 in Frontline Volume and 15,000 in Group Volume for 3 consecutive months to get $1,000 bonus payment.
Executive Director Generation Bonuses
Once you reach the executive directorship, you're entitled to earn generational bonuses based on the specific rank you belong and the corresponding level bonus.
Medifast Diet [UGLY] Truths Revealed!
1. No Difference
As I mentioned earlier, there’s not that much difference with Medifast Diet versus the ones existing in the market today.
Underneath the promises of losing weight is the desire to increase product sales by means of promoting its low-fat and low-calorie products to its clients.
Nonetheless, losing weight remains to the personal lifestyle changes and not with the consumption of diet plan provided to them.
2. Encourages 85% Of Medifast Products
Rather than encouraging the dieters to change their food consumption by means of adding more fiber, wheat, and real food to their diet, Medifast seems to encourage its clients to purchase more in the company than losing weight by natural means.
As per the experts note on this, you don’t know what inside the products you’re consuming rather than the ones you cook for yourself. So, you can’t really say you’re losing weight using their products alone.
3. Severely Low-Calorie Consumption
In addition to the previous point, you are also encouraged to live a tough dieting life by maintaining at least 800 calories to 1,000 calorie count as a maximum number.
You can’t go beyond the number. That means you’re only going to eat and drink what Medifast provides you. There’s not that much allowance for you to enjoy and eat the food and drink the beverage you love.
4. No Clear Compensation Plan
Given it’s a parent company of Optavia, that means there’s no clear compensation plan for those who work hand-in-hand for Medifast.

There’s no affiliate program opportunity stipulated on the website no matter how much I dug into various sources.
5. Legal Issues Against False Claims
According to different sources, Medifast once faced legal issues because of their false advertising that their diet plan will make you lose more weight around 2 to 5 pounds per week.
The company paid $3.7 million for the damages it created and promised to market their plan when there’s a scientific study backed to support their claim.
What I Like About Medifast Diet?
1. Encourages A Healthy Lifestyle
Just like any weight loss program, they encourage their clients to live a healthy lifestyle as possible. Based on the meal plan, the dieters need consume to 5 to 7 ounces of lean protein, 3 servings of vegetables, and 2 servings of healthy fats.
There are also certain condiments allowed in the diet plan comprising the sauces, dressings, etc. But you must only have 1 snack per day.
The snack isn't just another ordinary and delicious snack but you're only allowed to eat celery, Jell-O, a Popsicle, pickles, gum, or mints, and half-ounce of either walnuts, pistachios, or almonds. You aren't also allowed to drink any forms of alcoholic drinks.
Medifast Diet Reviews - What Others Say About The Program?
With the recent lawsuit filed against the company, believing their products work had me some second thoughts personally.
This claim is made true to a lot of people who tried and tested the Medifast diet and the majority of them mentioned nothing changed in their weight loss journey. In fact, some of them gained weight.
In addition to that, there are complaints wherein the meal plan doesn’t taste to their liking and they doubt the high cost for it.
Besides, it already took a hassle ordering them because of the company’s terrible customer service, resulting in the fraudulent charges to their bank accounts.
A dissatisfied customer named Deedra from Florida wrote, "I have been waiting for a refund for 2 months and still getting the runaround.
You can't speak to their accounts payable department. They say they don't even know the number. [I] asked to be transferred to a supervisor and was cut off!"
According to Carol from Pennsylvania, she gained weight after spending $1,200 worth of products believing they work.
Further, Medifast products are claimed to have been full of preservatives. Theresa from New York is a cancer patient and advised to go on a diet.
She thought Medifast will help her to it but she found out that the company provided her "preservative-laden box of junk."
Is Medifast Legit?
There’s no doubt that the Medifast diet is a legit weight loss program and the company itself is a real company.
It’s existent and it’s real. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have existed for so long like 39 years in the MLM and health and wellness industry.
The problem is that the program itself promotes a severely restrictive meal plan and there are a lot of food on the list you can’t eat.
If so, you’re only allowed to have a serving or two of each. In the long run, it’s hard to sustain such a lifestyle, especially if you have a family to raise or you’re schedule is too hectic to make your own meals.
On top of that, the majority of your meal plan comprises Medifast products which are claimed to be filled with preservatives.
So, there’s less likely a chance to lose weight they promised. For the dieters, they don’t know what’s inside these products and they have no control to the content.
Hence, albeit the legitimacy of the company, the Medifast diet is not a great jumpstart to lose weight. Its restrictive nature isn’t sustainable, to begin with.
#1 Online Business Opportunity
Making money promoting various weight loss programs is challenging, especially if you don’t have personal experiences yourself.
On top of that, it’s hard to promote a certain program without first-hand experience at all. Why? How can you convince someone to enroll in a certain program without knowing the whole program itself?
Thus, you have to start your own weight loss journey first before you can convince someone to become a referred user.
Granted, it’s best to search for more business opportunity that will give you no hassle and won’t bring any detrimental effects to someone’s physical health.
With that being said, Roope “Robert” Kiuttu, the founder of Your Online Revenue Ltd and a successful affiliate marketer for 4 years, recommends this great money-making opportunity this year. It’s a FREE program training that made him earn more or less $2,000 within 20 hours.
