What is HubPages?

If you know how Medium works, then you already have an idea of how HubPages work. Likewise, Squidoo had its similarities with this “hub” as well as Blogger, Tumblr, and Weebly. All of these websites have in common, content generation. High-quality content so to speak.

By calling the attention of the writers, photographers, knowledge seekers, explorers, and conversation starters, HubPages functions as the mediator by means of providing these creative folks a space to share their expression. Be it in photos or words, they are all welcome.

What is HubPages really about? The answer is simple. Sharing content.

How Does HubPages Work?

Like blogging, you’re going to write a piece of high-quality content aka “hubs” and publish on HubPages to share with the readers, who will be interested in reading your work.

As long as you keep their eye-catching headlines attracting readers to stay in your post, the more traffic you’re going to generate from that post alone.

If you’re going to write a bunch of articles in the same frequency as you do with your personal blogs, there’s likely a higher chance to increase more traffic in which it could be useful when you have to connect Google AdSense for its corresponding value.

Once your post generates massive traffic, the higher the chance your earning opportunities will be.

How to Make Money with HubPages?

As I mentioned earlier, to earn money with HubPages, you need to create a piece or pieces of high-quality content in various forms to attract more readers. According to their website, you can choose in various categories and write about these. Among those are the following:

  • Arts & Design

  • Autos

  • Books, Literature, & Writing

  • Business & Employment

  • Education & Science

  • Entertainment & Media

  • Family & Parenting

  • Fashion & Beauty

  • Food & Cooking

  • Games, Toys, & Hobbies

  • Gender & Relationships

  • Health

  • Holidays & Celebrations

  • Home

  • HubPages Tutorials & Community

  • Personal Finance

  • Pets & Animals

  • Politics & Social Issues

  • Religion & Philosophy

  • Sports & Recreation

  • Technology

  • Travel & Places

Is HubPages A Scam Features-min

HubPages features one of the things you can do on the platform.

Like how Google search engine functions, the above-mentioned platform has a similar system in which your work could be featured on the main page and attract more users than the rest of the articles published each day.

Granted, the higher the traffic your blog posts generate, the higher the income opportunities for you as an author of the work. That is because of the Google AdSense attached to your account, which is responsible for your revenue.

Aside from that, you could also attach referral links generated from companies you’re affiliated. Simply because HubPages is a large platform with a massive following, generating traffic is tough and competitive yet rewarding.

That is why you have to learn how to create eye-catching titles to lure readers to read your work. You can enroll Jon Morrow’s Serious Bloggers Only eCourse.

HubPages [UGLY] Truths Revealed!

1. Anti-Christian Platform

According to one of the active contributors on HubPages, the platform doesn't allow any Christian-posts or of any form.

"I have to 100% agree with the posts here stating that any hubs about Christianity will be unpublished," a contributor named Alisa wrote on Consumer Affairs. Ivon had the same experience when her 100 articles were unpublished without explanation for the same reason.

HubPages continues to make phone calls to force you to avail their SEO services.

2. Constant Offer To SEO

There are many instances wherein the administrators working for HubPages calls or emails the contributors offering to have their hubs ranked first on Google in exchange for an amount.

"Despite many requests to stop, they (and companies like them) continue to call," a contributor named Ashley mentioned.

3. Horrible Customer Service

This is when you reject their offers as most of the contributors of the same online marketing and related-jobs and companies revealed.

Scott, an online business owner, knew his page ranked the first page on Google because he's knowledgeable how to do it.

But HubPages continues to call him and hang up without even saying their apologies when he refused the offer per se.

4. Banning Contributors Without Reason

There are many situations where the contributors were left hanging because they never consider giving second chances to contributors with a slight mistake.

Alon, a contributor with lots of articles published, was banned from the platform although all of his articles remained published.

If the HubPages staff don't like you for whatever reasons they have, they will simply shut you off without clear reason behind the move.

"I can't tell you how many time every one of those articles was ridiculed and unpublished by the HubPages Team over extremely small errors, flaws, or rule-breaking content," an anonymous contributor ranted on the forum.

5. Biased & Prejudiced Treatment

Jim told Consumer Affairs that most of the contributors felt like they're walking on eggshells because 90% of them don't know if their articles will be published with respect or remain unpublished and vanish into thin air. Also, the staff sounded biased, unfair, and "treat their writers like dirt beneath their feet."

6. New HubPages Lost Its Glory

Mohamed, a hubber from Singapore, stated that the above-mentioned platform had lost its glory. He said, "The experience [with HubPages] is far different than it used to be... The approval rates then weren't as cumbersome as it is now."

7. Low BBB Rating

As much as how decent and glorious HubPages sound like to the masses, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) said otherwise.

Aside from the company’s failure to get their accreditation status, they also failed to obtain a higher BBB rating with only B- displayed on their profile.

What I Like About HubPages?

1. Serves As Knowledge Base Platform

When talking about HubPages, I could relate its functions to platforms like Medium albeit its closest rivalry with Squidoo before its acquisition in 2014.

The thing about these websites is that it allows you to share any content you like with the intention to either simply inform and tell a story or make money from something you’re already good at.

The difference is that HubPages seems to limit its features and make the publishing power a hassle for that regard.

2. Various Topics Allowed

The only concern I found on reviews is the sensitivity of HubPages towards topics about Christianity.

Probably, it’s to prevent religious debates, which we know are hard to deal with. Yet, as I showed earlier there a lot of categories you could choose from and write something you’re really interested in with an assurance of big readership.

Is HubPages A Scam Various Topics-min

HubPages claims your freedom on topics to write about. Yet, once you talk about Christianity, your posts will vanish into thin air without informing you either.

3. Big Readership

With over 36 million users every month, there’s no need to doubt how big HubPages is when it comes to its following and readership power.

Having that said, it’s guaranteed to ensure large affiliate income if your users are convinced with the product, service, or program you refer.

4. Ensured Income Potential

There’s no doubt you will have more income streams on HubPages aside from earning revenues via Google AdSense, Amazon affiliate, and HubPages referral offer program. Especially if you’re also affiliated with a number of affiliate marketing programs.

You just have to make sure you will produce epic content to make sure you have a large number of readers per month depending on the payout schedule.

HubPages Review - What Others Say?

The majority of the contributors noticed the big changes of the once seamless publishing on Squidoo when HubPages acquired the former 5 years ago.

The results of their article readership weren’t as dramatic as it sounded in comparison to the contributor’s position as the author and/or owner of the piece.

When the platform was launched more than a decade ago, the earlier contributors found HubPages a great way to expose their works online.

Is HubPages A Scam Positive Review

Many contributors find HubPages beneficial, yet with corresponding limitations.

At the same time, they earn money from the generated traffic it brings from organic search, which is generated via Google.

Years passed, things changed including their uncertainty whether their posts will be published, rejected, or deleted after a short time when it was live on the site.

The contributors seem to have second thoughts all the time, including the annoying calls from the staff about hiring them for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) sake.

On top of that, there have been many dissatisfied users aka "hubbers" because of the subtle bias on the staff’s behalf when it comes to publishing articles.

Is HubPages A Scam Negative Review

HubPages seem to dissatisfy more contributors due to its subtle religious discrimination.

Especially if it’s tackling sensitive issues like religion, which is obviously needed to be discussed with caution. But as a person with freedom of expression, it doesn’t have to be denied.

Nonetheless, HubPages continues to thrive not only as a company, but it also grows in terms of keeping its reputation as one of the leading content generating and revenue-sharing platform.

Is HubPages A Scam?

Based on the research I made, HubPages is definitely a legitimate company with inevitable issues just like any institution does.

The mission and vision were adhered up to this date. If they were a scam or a company with shady tactics, at least, they shouldn’t have survived up to this date.

Given, albeit the rise of the contributor’s shared sentiments on various forums, HubPages continues to grow the number of hubbers, who continue to write and publish articles and make an extra income from it.

Is HubPages A Scam Landing Page-min

HubPages landing page displays option to start writing & featured stories

Regardless of the ongoing issues between the contributors and the staff, needless to say, HubPages is a great company with a great mission to keep, promising everyone a worthwhile experience in sharing their content and earn.

This, in turn, keeps a large number of followers and subscribers proving their loyalty to the company and its promise.
