1. Freelance work

Back in 2014 after I quit my job as a full-time high school teacher, this was how I started my online work journey. I got into freelance writing as a career, my only means of earning an income to prove to my parents I could earn online.

That said, it’s proof that by starting a freelance work and make use of your skills in exchange for payment. Most of the times, there are a lot of companies and private individuals looking for writers.

If this is your thing, then it’s best to upgrade your high-income skill and learn how to write and blog properly as Jon Morrow’s Serious Bloggers Only course.

2. Freelance Proofreader

Aside from writing jobs, you can also take some proofreading jobs online. You can simply register on popular consolidator platforms like Upwork or Freelancer to search for companies and individuals, who are looking for proofreaders.

3. Virtual Assistant

To start working as a virtual assistant, you need to understand that you have to build your own online presence first.

According to Gina Horkey of Horkey Handbook, your clients need to see your established service options. Obviously, you need to set up your own website stipulating your skills, etc.

Once you’re done, you can go to Upwork or OnlineJobs.Ph and search for companies and private individuals looking for virtual assistants, who’d like to work with you in exchange for per hour rates.

4. Online English Teacher

Before I began my writing journey, I was also once an online English teacher trying to make ends meet at the time.

If you think you have what it takes to teach English for Japanese, Korean and Chinese students, the popular options are RareJob, Eigox, and VIPKID.

5. Website Design

If you have know-how in web designing, then this option is a great one for you. Melyssa Griffin, one of the leading bloggers today, started her online business designing websites for popular people.

It was her way to get out the dread of earning low as a full-time English teacher in Japan. She returned to the United States with a new business plan, which she later quit to build her own company and sell courses.

6. Participate in online surveys

You start by searching for websites that offer online surveys and register for membership. Once your application is confirmed, you can start taking surveys for whatever products or services and earn an income afterward.

In each survey, you’ll earn credits and if you reach the threshold, you can redeem them and convert into cash payable straight to your account.

7. Sell old things online

Just so you know, minimalism has been on the trend for most of the people nowadays. Even though the lifestyle started ages ago, there are still more and more people enticed to give this a try.

This is how you could earn an income by selling the old things you don’t need anymore online. Amazon and eBay are the most popular options for that. Especially if you’re selling your old books, CDs, among others.

8. Upload YouTube Videos

There are many YouTubers today, who started to make money by means of applying for the YouTube Partner Program.

However, you must meet their condition before you become qualified to apply. You must have at least 1,000 subscribers to start monetizing your videos.

You’re paid once your viewer watches or views the ad for at least 30 seconds. That’s $1 per 25 views. If you have a massive following, you can guarantee higher earnings, of course.

Platforms such as Shutterstock and Getty Images cost these much for the photos uploaded on the site. Hence, imagine how much they pay for the contributors once their photos are approved & uploaded.

9. Sell photos

If you have a knock on photography, you can sell your photos on Adobe Stock, Getty Images, or Shutterstock since these websites offer royalties to their contributors. But that depends on the quality of the photos and the number of downloads your photo makes.

For instance, 123RF pays out their contributors at least 60% commission rates. Getty Images pays around 20% to 30% which is equivalent to approximately $300 to $500 per image.

10. Create a course

In my previous post, I reviewed Teachable and how bloggers fall in love with the platform through its seamless features for content uploads and payment transactions for both the students and the instructors.

If you want to earn money from something you already know, you can create a course for free on the above-mentioned platform.

With that option, you won’t get the 100% of the sale unless if you paid $79 for Professional and $299 for Business Plans.

On the other hand, Udemy also welcomes instructors who are passionate about teaching their field of expertise and like Teachable, creates a system wherein the students pay for the course they want to take.

11. Review music online

There are 15 websites you can go to if you want to earn some bucks by reviewing music online. You’re getting paid per review and in the number of music, you listened and made feedback. InboxDollars is the most popular option and the most go-to-sites because it directly connects with Radio Loyalty.

Other websites include FusionCash, Slice the Pie, RadioLoyalty, Earnably, HitPredictor, Musicxray, Unique Rewards, Research.fm, Nielsen, WeLocalize, BeFrugal, Ebates, Swagbucks, and Playlist Push.

12. Tasks on Fiverr

Fiverr is known for small tasks individuals or companies upload for the sake of hiring short-term freelancers to do the work for them.

In return, they will either pay $5 or more depending on the size of work and the number of hours it takes to finish it. The basic pay is $5 and for custom work may push the price higher depending on the freelancer.

I tried both ways as a customer and a freelancer back in the days. As a customer, you’d never expect satisfaction with the work equivalent to $5 as Fiverr promised to their clients. What I got from the freelancer was a basic logo I could even design myself. It wasn’t worth it.

On the other hand, as a freelancer, you’d get at least $5 per project as soon as the client says yes to the offer and goes higher per work. You’re going to invest almost nothing but your skills on the platform.

13. Participate on internet crowd-sourcing

Like Upwork, Clickworker and Amazon Mechanical Turk work the same system as they hire freelancers who will do the short-term jobs in various categories available.

From writing, data entry, translation, among others are there. It’s up to you to join the group of freelancers and accomplish the tasks and get paid. Easy.

If you wish to earn more, then you have to get more menial jobs and get paid more. That’s how crowd-sourcing industry works basically.

14. Affiliate Marketing

In my MaxBounty review, I mentioned about earning money as an affiliate marketer by means of promoting products online in exchange for money per generated lead.

That means to ensure a higher income, you have to implement the site optimization to boost your traffic and generate as much leads as possible to make more money.

The same principle goes to different companies offering affiliate programs i.e. websites, courses, etc.

15. Write & Publish Kindle

You don’t spend a dime when you write a novel or nonfiction. All you need is your pen and paper or your typewriter to finish the manuscript. The expense starts when you hire a professional to furnish your crap into something marvelous.

It’s actually not a free option if you just began writing. But if you have a manuscript set aside for months or years unpublished, Amazon Kindle doesn’t ask for fees when you register and upload your work. Even if you get more sales or downloads.

16. 'Get Paid To' Sites

If you notice, I frequently mention Swagbucks, Toluna, InboxPounds and other similar websites on my posts recently.

This is because these kinds of platforms welcome bloggers who wanted to make money by getting paid for something they do such as taking surveys, etc.

Aside from that, this is also the first go-to-hub for new bloggers who wanted to earn an income from doing menial tasks.

17. Reviews Websites & Apps for Cash

You can also go to websites in search for beta testers for their websites and applications newly developed and released. Oftentimes, UserTesting, WhatUsersDo, and UserTest are the popular choices for most bloggers out there.

These companies tend to use this system to grab the opportunity to have the first-hand experience and receive feedback from real users.

From there, they base their opinions to make improvements for the betterment of what they have created. Be it a website or a mobile application.

18. Start A Blog

It doesn’t take a lot of time to set up a website but it does take a lot of time to make it work. Within this post, you see a mass of opportunities you can utilize and test to which of these options work for your niche and not.

If you want to start your own website, Roope has step-by-step training on how to do this right.

19. Paid To Search On Web

In professional terms, these kinds of menial jobs are for research assistant. You’re paid to search whatever on the web depending on the topics they ask from you.

I experienced this when a private individual hired me to write for him. But all I did was to do the research and he paid me for that.

Since I got myself in the freelance writing industry, LinkedIn became a great path for my work and future projects.

Most companies lurk there and message you in hopes of hiring a competent person even for menial jobs like these.

Albeit the low-paying jobs and short-term projects they have for you, the important thing is they pay you for that. Aside from LinkedIn, Qmee is also best to try for these kinds of opportunities.

20. Online Surveys

As I mentioned earlier, you can earn online by means of participating anything on the web such as beta testing of any application and newly released websites.

Aside from that, you can also do participate in online surveys for the companies in the search for feedback from the real-life market.

To get into this, you can go through the familiar sites such as Toluna, i-Say, InboxPounds, LifePoints, Opinion Outpost, Panel Opinion, Onepoll, The Opinion Panel, YouGov, Pinecone, SurveyBods, Hiving, Panel Base, Prolific, Valued Opinions, Survey Junkie, and New Vista.

21. Cash Back Signup Bonuses

This option is great if you’re an avid fan of shopping and you’re a frequent customer in online shopping malls.

Cash Back bonuses work when you redeem the cash corresponding the credits to your account based on the number of points you collected.

For instance, gas stations reward you as much as $1,500 every quarter or 1% cash back for all the generated sales in your account.

Ebates is one of the most popular companies most bloggers recommend when it comes to redeeming rewards from purchases made, especially on Walmart and Amazon.

22. Open Online Savings Account

A few recommendations I noticed most bloggers advise to open an online savings account to either invest and save money with a bit of interest per year.

In the United States, they shared these banks are great in these kinds of services, comprising: PNC Bank, Capital One, Discover Bank, and CIT Bank.

In Roope’s region, he recommends Nordnet for those who reside in the Nordic regions (Sweden, Denmark, and Finland). You can see his comprehensive review here and see if this bank works for you or not.

23. Earn By Watching Videos

If you’re already familiar with Swagbucks and how it works for your money-making endeavor, I assume you know they also welcome people to earn more by simply watching videos. GrabPoints and iRazoo are the top choices.

24. Participate on Nielsen ratings

Watching a bunch of television programs don’t have to be a waste until you participate in taking Nielsen surveys and spend some time to determine the free air program ratings.

After you take the survey for around 5 minutes or so, you’re going to receive some bucks in return. Usually, you’ll earn more or less $100+ per year.

25. Earn As Airbnb Host

Traveling is on its hype these days. So, it’s common for people, especially those with nice and big houses, to offer their spaces for them by posting their homes or apartments if they have on Airbnb.

From there, the platform will review the post and have it displayed for the travelers to see and pay for their entire stay. All you did was to take a photo of your space and upload it. You didn’t spend a dime on it either.

Cons of Earning Money Online for Free

1. Prone Risks

Simply because it’s for free, you’re not going to expect lesser risks unless if you opt for another business opportunity as Roope offers for you.

But this doesn’t mean the paid programs won’t give risks, too, because it does. Every business options always have cons attached to it.

2. Low-Paying Offers

Most companies and even private individuals tend to use the platforms asking bloggers to do menial jobs or tasks because it will cost them some bucks than hiring a competent staff in which it would cost thousands of dollars.

3. Takes a Lot of Time to Save Money

If you think you’re going to make a lot of money by doing these tasks, you’re wrong. There’s a simple rule to follow in these kinds of opportunities.

You either work for more tasks and accomplish them within a limited span of time or you search for a money-making stream with higher ROI but will ask you a bit more of your time and expertise on your end to finish a project or two.

4. Social Isolation

When I began my online writing work, I wasn’t prepared with the stakes honestly. I didn’t expect I’d be socially isolated for years to the point I’d be very introverted.

For example, my cousin visited me last night. Because I wasn’t used to meeting people, I was completely terrified with the fact someone other than my own family and my husband visited me.

5. Unhealthy Lifestyle

Since you’ll be working most of the time on the web, your sedentary lifestyle is obvious. You’ll either be sitting down or standing up most of the time depending on the worktable you’re working.

In my case, I sat down in front of my laptop from morning to the evening until I finish my work. Everything.

Until I accomplish my tasks, that’s the only time I stand up and stretch my back, hearing my cracking bones and loud grunts.

What I Like About This Income Stream?

1. Earning Income Opportunities

For beginner bloggers, they certainly don’t have any idea where to make money and make everything work for them.

Starting a blog is simple but transforming it into a money-making machine is another story. Yet, these kinds of menial jobs i.e. giving feedback, reviews, taking surveys, watching videos, submitting photos, etc. allow them to make money from something they love doing or they can do, at least.

2. Expand Learning Opportunities

Opening a path for money-making doesn’t only give you some bucks, but it also provides areas where you can expand your learning opportunities and upgrade your high-income skills as Dan Lok always advise.

For instance, you want to blog and make money from that skill, try and see “Get Paid To” sites for possibilities.

3. No Investment Needed to Start

All you need is your skill to get qualified to make money for these platforms. You don’t have to invest a lot of money and simply make use of these free memberships in order to get access to these surveys and take part in money.

4. Flexible Working Hours

You have the full-control of earning money online. Even though you’re working full-time as long as you have the running online possibilities such as these, it works.

Besides, everything is online so you don’t have to catch up that much in comparison to in-person opportunities like the dreading 9 to 5.

5. More Money from Effortless Jobs

You don’t even need to think about the job itself. For instance, in taking surveys for Nielsen, you’re earning more or less $100 in one year by answering questions about free air television programs.

In submitting nice photographs for Getty Images, you’re earning around $300 to as high as $500 per image you uploaded on the site.

What Others Say About This?

As far as my review goes, there’s no doubt many bloggers recommend to start doing these kinds of menial tasks to earn some bucks as a starter.

"It's not only a fun way to earn some extra money, but it's also very easy to do!" Miranda Grimm of Wah Adventures wrote. This claim is also supported by Megan Robinson of Dollar Sprout.

She said, "As long as you have an internet connection, you can legitimately earn money online from anywhere in the world."

She noted that in order to maximize the internet as much as you can, it's best to spend some time in earning money than using the said technology for simply wasting time and become unproductive.

Is Anthony Morrison a Scam Artisst Content Image 1 - Your Online Revenue

On the other hand, many of them warned the new bloggers for scammers lurking around the internet as well.

As I mentioned earlier, simply because these money-making opportunities are there for free, there's also an increasing number of fraudulent activities happening around the corner, too.

Regardless these opposing thoughts, as per personal experience, there's nothing wrong with earning money online for free and investing some time to earn an extra income from something you already are knowledgeable and competent for an income.

Is It a Legit Way to Earn Money?

There’s no doubt this is a legitimate way to earn money. Just because it’s there for free, it doesn’t mean the majority of these opportunities are all a scam.

They aren’t. It’s just that many of these don’t pay well or higher than you expect. Well, this is just the beginning of your money-making journey, so don’t expect high.

Nonetheless, the 25 opportunities I provided in this post are all the legit means of earning an income, a great starter for you.

Yet, that doesn’t mean they risk-free because there are still scammers, who could get through and victimize. It’s up to you to be vigilant and careful, especially to the “too good to be true” opportunities to lure you.
